2011 Racer Paul Chetwynd Fundraising for Japan Relief

On March 11th, 2011 Japan endured the 4th largest earthquake on record, a 9.0. The video and photo footage the world has seen has been utterly devastating. Paul Chetwynd and Takitaro Ishizawa are racing the BC Bike Race for the children of this disaster. "At last count, 201 children were orphaned in one five minute wave. They're going to need a little help for a long time and I want to do what I can," said Paul.

BC Bike Race is committed to helping Paul raise awareness and funds to support the children and has setup a link for anyone interested in contributing to Paul's effor, called Tohoku Kids: www.globalgiving.org/dy/fundraiser/prevfund/gg.html?regid=5969

Trails

At BC Bike Race, our number one charity is trails. The trails we race, the trails we ride, and the trails you ride.

trailbuildingEvery year, BC Bike Race contributes to local trail user groups for projects directly involving our Race Course to give back in the areas we impact. Recently, funds were donated to the Cumberland Community Forest Society to preserve trails used by BCBR. In Squamish, BC Bike Race helped to fund George's Crossing, a new bridge built in conjunction with Corsa Cycles and the Squamish Off Road Cycling Association, amongst others. Each year, BCBR selects local projects on our race route to fund and support. BC Bike Race also donates money to groups like the International Mountain Bicycling Association to support trail development world-wide.

Throughout the year, members of our crew spend countless extra hours building and repairing trails, both on our course and in other areas of the province.

Save Your Skin Foundation

The Save Your Skin Foundation is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They focus on events dedicated to raising money for education and awareness, along with research and treatment of skin cancer - especially melanoma. The Foundation has a Canadian focus on the important research being done in this country. BC Bike Race has been happy to help support the Save Your Skin Foundation and is eternally grateful to all the wonderful volunteers from the Foundation who have helped to make BC Bike Race such a success!
